Úryvek

"The interpretation
This work reflects Fitzgerald´s deeper knowledge, his recognition that wanting to be happy does not insure one´s being so and that pursuit of entertainment may only cover a lot of pain.
I was impressed by two chapters best of all. These are chapters III. and IX. Character of the whole novel is expressed especially in these parts of the book.
Fitzgerald describes splendid parties given by Gatsby through the narrator Nick Corroway. Parties were wealthy and so many guests used to take part at them. Gatsby´s house was enormous large but it did not mean that he did not take care of it. Surrounding was beautiful especially his nice cut lawn.

Giving party was not easy and cheap at all. I cannot imagine that Gatsby could become such a rich man during the short period of five years. There was an evidence that Gatsby with his vast new wealth acquired by breaking the Prohibition lows having sold alcohol without permission.
Gatsby´s choice of guests for his parties was strange. Some of them were his business partners but Gatsby has never seen many of them before. I think that Gatsby has not got a real fun on his parties. Although the parties were crowded they were empty at the same time. Guests and their way of entertainment gave a true picture of Fitzgerald´s generation which was called the Jazz Age.
Author describes the reason of Gatsby´s death in the last two chapters. People were shocked by the news that he was dead. But I think, it was not a deep sorrow. They only pretended it. Perhaps it was a grief over loss of opportunity to take past at such wealthy parties.

From my point of view this situation was quite terrible. I mean that almost everyone had known him and almost nobody came to tell him last goodbye. A very good example of snobbery is Mr. Meyer Wolfshiem. His apology was not very complimentary. I think that if he was Gatsby´s real friend he could came to his funeral. But Mr. Wolfshiem and also a very “friendly” and “respectful” guests were something like alive corpse. I said it, because their feelings were dead long ago.
The only real Gatsby´s friend was Nick Carraway who shared his success and problems. Their relationship was based on loyalty. Nick was a man who could understand mysterious Gatsby´s life.

In my point of view the lifestyle and manners of wealthy people are strange in comparing with the life of middle class. High society respects different things as other people do and therefore people are not able to understand their thoughts and deeds.

Theme

The theme of this realistic novel was the opportunity wealth provides for the realisation of “good life” and the necessity for what Fitzgerald calls “a hightened sensitivity to the promises of life“ if people are to imagine the good life clearly enough to understand what they have the opportunity to achieve.

Plot

The plot of Great Getsby is managed with great skill and economy. The complicated series of misunderstandings that lead up to the death of Myrtle Wilson is handled with amazing ease. The parallel between Gatsby´s love of Daisy and Nick Carroway´s love of Jordan Baker is precise and unobtrusive."
